Phase 3 of School’s Green Initiative Challenge Begins |
The challenge is designed to work with schools and promote environmental awareness |
The Green Initiative Challenge (GIC) has entered its third phase, during which 99 new schools will be included in the challenge. The GIC began in October 2013 between the KenGen Foundation, Bamburi Cement and Better Globe Forestry, with 81 schools in the 7-Forks area, as a way of raising awareness for environmental action. By working with schools, the project involved students and the community to plant more tree seedlings, while also encouraging the African youth to be environmentally conscious.
The partnership itself is fostered on social responsibility. Better Globe Forestry is focused on environmental conservation and sustainability, which it shares with communities. It is dedicated to the long-term benefits of environmental conservation and believes the responsibility falls on everyone to leave the Earth better than how we found it. With KenGen's assistance, the project has helped integrate planting in schools. The project intends to cover 460 acres with over 300,000 tree seedlings and over 100,000 fruit seedlings. |
